After completing studies in physics at Keio University, Shinichi (Shin) Iwata joined Lotus Corporation, where he was a key member of the software development team for projects such as Domino for the AS/400 and NotesPump. He then joined Microsoft Corporation and as a project manager for network systems in the MSN Division. In 2001, he became involved in the establishment of Ariel Networks, Inc. There, he managed the overall development of peer-to-peer (P2P) applications, from planning, to design and development. During this period, he also wrote numerous articles and gave lectures on P2P technologies and applications. He joined Skype in August 2005 and is now general manager of the Japan Office. His main responsibilities are expanding Skype usage in Japan, including educating the development industry to increase the number of homegrown solutions using Skype. He has published a book ("Naruhodo Natoku! P2P Ga Wakaru Hon" ("I See! A Book Explaining P2P"), Ohmsha publishing) and is often featured in media as the Japan spokesperson for Skype.
Presentation outline: I will be speaking on how Skype can change working styles together with actual case studies in which Skype is used in business environments. I will also be introducing Skype's latest functions, particularly of interest to businesspeople.

He leads all aspects of the company's business strategy and execution as well as its marketing initiatives. Prior to db4objects, Christof was founder and Chief Executive Officer at APSIS Software, a position he held from the founding of APSIS in 1993 until its merger with conject in 2002. Christof serves as President of ODBMS.ORG e.V., a non-profit association to provide free resources on object database technology for education and research, and is an active member in the OMG's Object Database Technology Working Group (OBDT WG) to provide the 4th generation object database standard. He is also a frequent speaker on industry events on open source business and his thoughts have been featured in many publications. He is leading author of the Stanford research on MySQL's business model. Christof holds a Master of Science in Management from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, where he was a Sloan Fellow in the Class of 2004.
