HEARTokyo is an annual show held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Bldg 1st Floor Tomin Gallery. This year it features 27 artists (illustrators, sculptors, animators, manga artists) including presenter Patrik Washburn and runs from March 1st to the 7th 10 am to 6pm. (from 11am opening day/until 3 closing day) The show itself is a partnership between Patrik's artist group and an NPO which works to make Tokyo a better place. For the artists, it's a good way to showcase fresh talent. More info can be found here: www.heartokyo.com

Presenter Profile: Patrik Washburn:

Patrik is a visual creator and head of a team of freelance artists who design, illustrate and animate under the name Giant Leap Creations. His personal specialty is character, logo, and brand design and I'm looking to do more in the entertainment field. As a team they provide services including planning and production of commercials, shorts, shows, films, web pages, banners, comics, and almost anything involving visual media.

Clients include Kodansha, Warner Publishing, Hudson, The Source Japan, Japan Music TV, and K-1. Patrik's personal page is: patokon.com and the team page is giantleapcreations.com

One recent project involved putting up a short animation on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgbWYfQE2UE

In addition to visual work, Patrik also works as a Language Consultant: translating, interpreting, and advising on cross-cultural issues.

Artist/Presenter Profile:
Canadian artist Matthew Evans spent several years making indie/pop/punk/folk/noise in a band called The Others before turning his attention to art in the mid 1990's. Since then he has exhibited and screened his work internationally including shows in Japan, France, Germany, Mexico, China, Korea and Hong Kong. He currently resides in Japan.

Event Concept: wait::repeat
Although I work in a variety of media, my practice the past 10 years or so has focused largely on video and video installation. On October 10th, will present a selection of these past projects while trying to identify some recurring themes or ideas and how they may have evolved over time. Hopefully, this will lead some discussion on working within a context such as Japan.
